Round Bottom Flasks are excellent for heating applications, but they do have the very strong disadvantage of not being able to stand up on their own. Flat bottoms flasks make up for this shortcoming by having a flattened base. While this reduced the even heating coverage a round bottom flask enjoys, it does mean that no special equipment is needed to place the flask down on a table. All flat bottom flasks are made of borosilicate glass.
