Description
Pyrite suns are iron pyrite disks that form between layers of shale in southern Illinois coal mines. They are only found in about a 20 square mile area surrounding the Sparta Illinois area. They were formed anywhere from 80 - 300 feet underground just above the coal. There are many theories on how or why they formed but none have been proven to be absolute.
These pyrite sun specimens range from 3-4" in diameter. Natural variations will occur with size, pattern, and form. Price is per individual sun.
