Tektites are small natural glass rocks formed from the impacts of meteors on Earth. Tektites are most prevelant near impact craters of meteorites. There are more than 150 known meteorite craters worldwide, with more being discovered each year. The meteorites that caused these craters weighed from 100 to thousands of ton, and impacted the Earth at an estimated speed of 47,000 miles per hour. The resulting explosions, equivelant to many nuclear bombs, ejected molten matter into outerspace at supersonic speeds. As they cooled these molten rocks (mostly glassy quartz) became aerodynamically shaped into tear drops , flattened spheres, and dumbell with pits and striations. Gravity then pulled them back to Earth. Tektites are made of Earth material but are actually formed in space.

These samples are at least 3/4" on their longest size. They are not polished or tumbled. Shapes will vary.
