Buddstone is also known by other names depending on where you are from, what business you are in, and where it was mined.

Other names are Africa Jade, Serpentine, Verdite, and Greenstone. Buddstone is mined almost exclusively in South Africa. The main constituent of Buddstone is metamorphic chert. The deep green color is caused by contaminants of chlorine, epidote, and fuchsite. Buddstone is popular with lapidiary artists for making carvings and jewelry because of its deep green beautiful color.
